Creating the space for your team to prepare for the workplace of tomorrow.
Leaders need to embrace a whole new way of thinking
The world is speeding up, the pace within which we do our work is the slowest it’s going to be for the rest of our careers, that either excites us, or terrifies us. NOW is the moment to create the mechanisms which are going to help us keep up with what is coming tomorrow. This means we need to urgently embrace the idea that our teams are not going to be fit for purpose and will need to constantly evolve. Once we’ve embraced this fact we can start to plan how to help the continuous evolution,
Telling isn’t enough, people need to experience the benefit
Adapting to new technologies and WoW often requires additional effort for our teams, slowing down their throughput, adding additional burden to tasks that never previously required thought. The new process often has kinks and creates frustration. Telling them there is a light at the end of the tunnel isn’t enough. they need to experience it for themselves to know the graft today will be worth if for the benefit of tomorrow
The new ‘Ways of Working’ take practice
Almost every facet of our work is changing, letters in post are now WhatsApp’s with emojis, you scan your grocery shopping yourself, you pay for things with your phone, soon your car (nearly) drive itself…. All of these changes (new technology and new process) take a little time to get used to, but it doesn’t take much practice to get the hang of it (Grocery self check out is probably the exception here). SO we think the same applies to work. A little practice goes a long way.
Theory isn’t enough we have to create the space for our people to practice applying
What makes the difference is understanding and experiencing the discrete behaviours and mindsets: ‘What Good Looks Like’. #WGLL

As leaders we need to focus on three key areas to help our teams grow and progress to tomorrow’s ways of working.
A simulation – putting theory into practice
Teams need to actually experience what modern ways of working feel like to buy in and effectively adopt them. We use simulations for the following reasons:
- Application not theory
- Experience now AND tomorrow state
- Team effectiveness needs team based approach
- The theory can be applied anywhere so learning is simplified
- Sandbox environment helps teams get started with the training wheels on
